Spring is Here – Perfect Golf Weather!

Last year, the Women’s Congressional Golf Association (WCGA) celebrated its 15th season. We hosted a reception on the Hill with the PGA’s Get Golf Ready program. Looking ahead, our all-volunteer board is busy planning special events and activities for golfers of every skill level all season long.

Our members include young women on the Hill who have never picked up a golf club. We also have members who are experienced golfers and seasoned government relations professionals looking to meet other women in the sport or improve their game. We arrange very affordable clinics for all parts of the game including beginner clinics in the spring. There’s something for anyone on or off the Hill who wants to play golf.

For past members, rejoin now and start spreading the word about WCGA with friends and colleagues and join us for our kick-off lunch on Capitol Hill on April 7th at Noon in Cannon Caucus Room.

Thanks for your continued support of women’s golf and WCGA. Best, Sally

WCGA Members Raise Money for Girls Golf Program

IMG_6938Marathon golfers LeeAnn Peterson and Anne Fabry participated in the inaugural First Tee of Greater Washington, DC Golf-A-Thon. By getting pledges for playing 36 holes in one day, Anne and LeeAnn raised $1,500 for the First Tee’s Girls Golf Program. The funding will be used to continue supporting college scholarships for local First Tee girls.

Overall, the first ever Golf-A-Thon was a huge success. For the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, 50 boys and girls ages 7-18 participated. In addition, the marathon participants played nearly 1,200 holes of golf with the leader at 115!

In total, the event surpassed the fundraising goals and raised $17,500. I know this would not have been possible without WCGA’s support. Please extend our sincere gratitude to LeeAnn and Anne for playing an important role in making this event a success.

We have a full summer season of events planned!

Here are some highlights. We have started Monday league night at East Potomac, with almost 50 members signed up – a great way to start off the work week! We will continue through the summer as “Meet Up Mondays.” We are bringing back the popular “Sunrise Golf” at East Potomac. Early risers gather every other Friday during June and July for nine holes on Friday mornings. All skill levels are welcome.

To practice your swing, we’re teaming up with East Potomac’s Young Professional group to do a monthly “Driving Range Social.” Starting on June 12th, this is perfect for all golfers. You come to mix and mingle while hitting golf balls at the range and enjoying beers after work.

Our clinic co-chairs have been very active by organizing beginner and intermediate clinics, making deals with local PGA pros for one-on-one lessons, and organizing our recent PGA Get Golf Ready Mixer.

Also, in recognition of our 15th year anniversary, a real push this year has been made to supporting women’s golf in the area this year by cosponsoring an upcoming Women’s Golf Month Reception on June 11th, working with PGA on their Get Golf Ready program, and the recent National Golf Day on Capitol Hill.

And finally we have plans for more weekend outings, social events like Ladies Night at National Park, and many more golfing opportunities.
